3.How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in composition? Be specific and use terms related to color.
Alma
The major hues or colors of the composition are black, blue, green and red. The black background color dominates and reinforces the idea that we are in dangerous situation regarding water resources. Value or the variation of light and dark applied to an area can be seen in the center image of a round global that uses value for both the background color of the global as well as the smaller images of a human, rabbit, snail, dog, etc. The green arrow ribbon with the blue water drops also uses variations of light and dark or value. Value is also used in the repetition of blue drops of water and butterflies flying off to space. The water in the far right panel also uses variation in light and dark to provide different hues or colors of blue resulting in a water texture. The saturation of the blue hue or color was apparently changed resulting in a sand color in both the water in the right panel and the globe in the lower left side of the image. The use of both the blue and green hues with variations in light and dark and saturation supports the concept of “green-ness” and water as a scarce resource. The red prohibition sign contrasts with the green and blue hues of the other images to emphasize that we should not waste water. The use of a blue textured color for text over a blue water background made the text, Power, a little difficult to read.
1. How is value used in the composition? (Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include that also.
Alma, I really like your composition. There is a lot of information going on in this piece but I believe that all of these are vital pieces of the whole. The value is used in this piece to transition on from one part to the other. The left and right side of the piece use a light value that allow the viewer to see the piece clearly and how you see the issue. While the center uses a dark value to emphasis the point of how the world will change if we aren’t more careful. I believe that you used value emphasis the point of water conservation. Great Job!
I think this would be a great piece for a billboard. The concept of water is definately the strongest point of the project. This is a very good quality composition, and very well thought out. Water is reflected throughout and lets the viewer know what this is about.
